# Unity + C#

A code-led game workflow: C# gameplay systems, an editor for scenes and assets, and a rendering pipeline chosen for the hardware you actually ship to.

## When to use it
- The team wants C# for gameplay and reusable systems
- The game ships to stores rather than needing a lightweight browser-first experience
- You need to balance visual ambition against a range of device performance budgets
- You can budget for commercial engine seats when the project or client no longer qualifies for Personal

## How the pieces fit
Unity's editor owns scenes, prefabs, animation, physics, and builds; C# components implement the game's rules. Keep reusable systems separate from scene wiring so iteration does not turn into duplicated scripts. Choose the render pipeline early: URP is a starting point for scalable graphics, while HDRP targets higher-end visuals and has different platform requirements. Profile a representative playable slice on the weakest supported device before committing to the art budget. Console delivery also requires platform approval and appropriate Unity licensing; an export target is not permission to publish.

## The tech and its role
- Unity: Scenes, assets, physics, animation, and player builds
- C#: Gameplay components and reusable systems
- URP / HDRP: Render pipeline selected for the target hardware
- Unity Profiler: CPU, memory, and rendering investigation on target devices

## Real-world examples
- Boat Attack: Unity's public boat-racing demo documents URP, a C# Jobs buoyancy system, Shader Graph, and Cinemachine. It is a learning project with older version-specific branches, not a production template or an HDRP example. (source: https://github.com/Unity-Technologies/BoatAttack)
- Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course: Unity lists Studio MDHR's expansion among its 2022 Made with Unity releases. Engine example only; the source does not establish its render pipeline or internal C# architecture. (source: https://unity.com/blog/games/made-with-unity-2022-in-review, 2022)

## Skip if
Skip if an open-source engine license is a hard requirement, or designers need a Blueprint-led Unreal workflow — Unity uses commercial engine terms and this playbook centers C#.
